7. Makiyari

Hozoinryu Takadaha Sojutsu Training Kata Ura Makiyari

In the seventh form of the ura set the suyari moves his spear in circles that get larger as he advances to irritate the kamayari before thrusting to his uramen. In the ura version the kamayari finishes the form with surikomi.

Both spears begin in jōdan.

Still standing on his starting position the suyari begins to describe counter-clockwise circles with his spear which become larger and larger as he advances to irritate the kamayari until he thrusts from gedan to the kamayari's uramen on the third step forward. The kamayari blocks this thrust with the shaft of his spear to his left side.

Now the kamayari steps forward with his right foot bringing his right hand up at the same time. This lets the tip of his spear describe a counter-clockwise semicircle that ends in gedan (the sickles are in a vertical position now) forcing the suyari who retreats one step into gedan as well.

The suyari now retreats one more step bringing his spear into yarigamae. The kamayari pursues one step while also bringing his spear into yarigamae positioning his omote-sickle over the suyari.

At the end of his second step backward the suyari then thrusts to the kamayari's maemen. The kamayari counters this thrust with surikomi, sliding his omote-sickle towards the suyari's left hand while stepping forward with okuriashi.

Finally both disengage and return to their starting positions.
